Celebrating Caribbean Culture: "The Story Behind My Caribbean Cultural Style" Premieres on YouTube!

On Wednesday 30 October 2024 , Cultural Fashion & Arts proudly premiered the docu-film “The Story Behind My Caribbean Cultural Style” featuring our Dominican Brand Ambassador Jennifer Laurent Smart, on YouTube as part of a special Black History Month event.

This film represents the first film project at Cultural Fashion & Arts CIC, a community interest company dedicated to celebrating and preserving cultural diversity through educational experiences.

Before the YouTube premiere, producer Candy Ellie Graham and the film's star, Jennifer Laurent-Smart, engaged with viewers during a live session on Instagram.

They shared valuable insights into the film's creation, the inspiration behind the stunning Madras fabrics, and the personal stories connecting cultural identity to fashion. This lively discussion set the perfect tone for the premiere, allowing our audience to connect directly with the voices that brought this project to life.

The docu-film beautifully weaves together history and modern perspectives, exploring the significance of Creole Caribbean clothing. It is not just a fashion story; it is a celebration of heritage, resilience, and community.

Candy Ellie Graham remarked, “This film is a testament to the beauty of Caribbean culture and the importance of sharing our stories. I hope it inspires others to embrace their heritage and express it through their own unique styles.”

This is a remarkable milestone since the films London premiere. In October 2022, we celebrated the screening event for “The Story Behind My Caribbean Cultural Style” during Black History Month at Cineworld, O2, Greenwich. The event was sold out and received fantastic feedback from attendees.

Following the screening, we held an engaging Q&A session hosted by Jacqueline Shepherd, the BBC talk show host. The panel included the film’s director, Candy Ellie Graham, star Jennifer Laurent-Smart, and Dr Adom Philogene Heron, alongside insights from Dr Kesewa John, the chair of the Society for Caribbean Studies and a noted Caribbean historian.

After this successful premiere, the film embarked on a mini tour featuring screenings and workshops, and we are delighted to finally share it with audiences worldwide.

We encourage everyone to watch the film and share it within your networks. Your support helps amplify the voices dedicated to preserving and celebrating cultural heritage. Join the conversation and share your thoughts using the hashtag #CaribbeanCulturalStyle.

At Cultural Fashion & Arts CIC, we are committed to creating events and activities that bring communities together.
